L’Autriche veut convaincre les Afghans de ne pas choisir leur pays comme terre d’asile et lance une campagne publicitaire à ce sujet sur les bus de Kaboul, à la télévision afghane, dans les journaux locaux et sur Facebook les avertissant qu’ils ne seront pas les bienvenus. Le message est clair : « Vous n’aurez pas d’asile en Autriche ». L’Autriche est le dernier arrêt avant l’ Allemagne, destination préférée des milliers de migrants.
Le Ministre de l’Intérieur autrichien, Johanna Miki-Leitner précise que «le gouvernement fédéral a une limite de 37.500 demandes d’asile pour cette année. Pour ne pas dépasser ce chiffre, il doit réduire le flux de réfugiés. « C’est une question de justice que d’avertir les gens, dans leur pays d’origine, sur les lois d’asile strictes qui les attendent en Autriche ». De grands panneaux d’affichage seront également installés dans cinq grandes villes afghanes, des publicités payantes seront publiées dans les journaux et sur plus de 1.000 sites web locaux. L’Autriche, avec une population de 8,5 millions d’habitants, a reçu 90.000 demandes d’asile l’année dernière, et environ un quart d’entre eux étaient des ressortissants afghans.
En 2015, l’Autriche avait déjà mené une campagne similaire au Kosovo.
Le Danemark a fait la même chose au Liban, par des annonces dans les journaux libanais.
