Que vous le vouliez ou non, vous êtes nés sur un champ de bataille. Oh, certes, ce n’est pas très agréable de naître et de vivre sur un champ de bataille. Mais ne vous laissez pas impressionner, n’ayez pas peur des combats qui vous attendent, ne soyez ni tristes ni timorés. Car c’est une grande grâce qui vous est faîte. Oui, le combat et la persécution sont le lieu des grandes réalisations et de l’héroïsme. Sur le front, en effet, on ne se promène pas nonchalamment comme lors d’un après-midi de printemps. On est prudent, et on se bat. On donne le meilleur de soi-même et on grandit. Ce n’est plus l’heure de « faire la fête », d’être « décontracté », comme vous le dites souvent : c’est l’heure d’aimer Dieu par-dessus tout et de se sacrifier pour l’Eglise. « Lorsque la jeunesse se refroidit, disait Georges Bernanos, le monde claque des dents. » En vérité, l’Eglise est assiégée, la chrétienté est à l’agonie. Alors, par pitié, levez-vous, mes bons amis ! Soyez humbles, certes. Connaissez et reconnaissez votre toute petitesse et vos tremblements. Mais confiez-moi cette fragilité, et avancez. Prenez sur vous les armes de la prière et de la pénitence, de l’étude doctrinale solide, et confessez publiquement votre foi.
