Le Conseil de sécurité de l’ONU a été le théâtre d’un vif échange entre le vice-ambassadeur Russe et le représentant britannique Matthew Rycroft lors d’une séance destinée à voter une résolution politique en Syrie.
Vladimir Safronkov a fermement repris son homologue britannique qui s’en était pris à Bachar al-Assad, «un criminel, un meurtrier et un barbare», et avait accusé la Russie de le soutenir.
Dans un discours aux accents pas toujours diplomatiques certes, Vladimir Safronkov a rappelé quelques vérités aux membres présents :
«Ce qui est important, et beaucoup de gens à l’ONU le savent déjà, c’est que vous avez pris peur, perdu le sommeil, parce que nous allons coopérer avec les États-Unis. C’est ce qui vous fait peur. Vous faites tout pour saper la coopération !»
«Voilà pourquoi… Regarde-moi ! Ne détourne pas le regard ! Pourquoi tu détournes le regard ? Voilà pourquoi tu n’as rien dit sur le processus politique. Tu n’as pas écouté [Staffan] de Mistura sciemment. Vous imposez des exigences insultantes aux garants du processus d’Astana. Et vous, qu’avez-vous fait pour le cessez-le-feu ?»
«Certains membres du Conseil de sécurité se montrent totalement irresponsables, offensifs, utilisent un langage inacceptable et insultent les autres nations. Tu as insulté la Syrie, l’Iran, la Turquie et d’autres. Mais ne t’avise plus jamais d’insulter la Russie !»
