En marge de la présentation du bilan de l’hôpital du Saint-Siège, le Bambino Gesu de Rome, le Secrétaire d’État du Vatican, le cardinal Pietro Parolin, s’insurge contre la fermeture des ports aux bateaux humanitaristes prévue par le nouveau gouvernement italien :
« Avec le président Mattarella nous avons parlé des questions internationales. Le président est rentré d’un voyage dans les pays baltes, nous avons parlé du thème des migrants mais naturellement à l’intérieur du thème de l’UE. Nous avons exprimé notre commune préoccupation pour la fermeture des ports. Je dirais que ce n’est certainement pas la solution. »
