Durant les derniers 45 jours, 5 églises ont été profanées dans diverses parties de l’Argentine. Les agresseurs brûlent et cassent le mobilier, volent des reliques et images et envoient un message antichrétien par la manipulation de symboles religieux (crucifix renversés.. ). L’Eglise publie un communiqué dans lequel elle demande aux autorités de garantir la liberté de culte.
Cette fin de semaine, le temple de la Première Eglise Méthodiste de Buenos Aires a connu des détériorations tandis qu’à Cordoba, les délinquants mirent le feu aux portes de la chapelle del Monte et volèrent des reliques.
L’église de St Ignace de Loyola (Buenos Aires) et la Cathédrale de Mar del Plata connurent aussi des profanations.
La dernière attaque connue est celle qu’a subi dimanche l’église St Antoine de Padoue où un confessionnal et la porte de l’église furent brûlées, une petite chapelle détruite, un Christ cassé, des ciboires et images saintes volés, les tubes de l’orgue datant de 1882 endommagés, la croix de l’autel retournée, les chaises renversées dans toute l’église.
La police suppose que la profanation a eu lieu entre 16h et 18h dimanche, alors qu’une forte tempête s’abattait sur la ville.
