Aux Etats-Unis, le jeu électronique « slave simulation » est considéré comme un outil éducatif à utiliser dans le cadre scolaire pour « expérimenter les conséquences de l’esclavage ».
Selon ces promoteurs, ce jeu électronique permettrait aux étudiants de mieux leur faire comprendre la vie et l’histoire des Afro-Américains.
Mais ce jeu a rapidement créé une vive controverse.
« Il est scandaleux de penser qu’un jeu vidéo aiderait à comprendre ce que ressentirait une personne qui serait esclave. Ce jeu prétend faire craindre à son utilisateur ce que l’on pourrait lui faire s’il était esclave: le violer, le blesser ou même le tuer. », a critiqué sur son blog professeur texan Rafranz Davi, après avoir reçu les recommandations pour utiliser ce programme avec ses élèves durant le mois de commémoration nationale de l’histoire des Afro-Américains.
Un utilisateur a tweeté « Je n’imagine pas comment serait un jeu vidéo sur l’Holocauste »…
