Une pièce à avoir au dossier du coronavirus, l’article du Point du 23 février 2017 sur le premier laboratoire P4 chinois, le P4 de Wuhan, fruit d’une étroite coopération franco-chinoise :
« Le premier laboratoire épidémiologique de haute sécurité P4 de Chine, qui abritera les souches les plus dangereuses des virus connus, en coopération avec la France, a franchi une nouvelle étape jeudi avec son accréditation par les autorités chinoises.
Situé près de Wuhan, dans le centre de la Chine, ce lieu ultrasensible, le premier de ce type dans le pays, a reçu sa certification lors d’une cérémonie en présence du Premier ministre Bernard Cazeneuve, en visite officielle en Chine.
Un laboratoire P4 de haute sécurité biologique héberge des germes extrêmement pathogènes. Les chercheurs y travaillent en confinement absolu, en dépression atmosphérique. Il existe moins d’une trentaine de laboratoires de ce type.

« Cette coopération s’accompagne évidemment de protocoles de sécurisation et de protection, pour faire en sorte que la gestion de ce laboratoire bénéficie à l’ensemble de la communauté internationale », a encore dit Mme Touraine.
Une réponse feutrée à des critiques anciennes: lancé au début des années 2000 pour un accord signé en 2004, le projet de P4 –bien que supervisé par des chercheurs français– avait suscité des réticences en raison des craintes qu’il puisse aider les Chinois à fabriquer des armes bactériologiques. »
