Noël étant la date fondatrice des religions chrétiennes, quelle qu’en soit l’obédience, elle a été révélée au monde entier par le biais des bâtisseurs d’empire et des missionnaires. Aujourd’hui, si Noël est jour de fête dans la quasi-totalité des pays, certains pays la rejettent où la tolèrent. Voici les pays où Noël n’est pas férié et ceux où il peut l’être sur demande.
Pays sans Noël férié :
- Etats musulmans : Mauritanie, Algérie, Tunisie, Libye, Somalie, Arabie Saoudite, Yémen, Afghanistan, Ouzbékistan et Tadjikistan
- Etats communistes : Corée du Nord et Turkménistan
- Etats bouddhistes :
Pays où Noël est férié sur demande :
- Etats musulmans : Maroc, Oman, Turquie, Koweït, Emirats Arabes Unis, Azerbaïdjan, Iran et Pakistan.
- Etats communistes : Chine, Laos et Vietnam.
- Etats bouddhistes (et apparentés) : Thaïlande, Cambodge, Mongolie, Japon et Taïwan.
- Etat juif : Israël
