Trois chrétiens ont été lapidées à mort en Tanzanie le 22 septembre en représailles d’une action antiterroriste. En effet,
« trois militants du groupe terroriste musulman al-Shabaab ont été retrouvés morts près de la ville d’El Wak en Tanzanie, sur la frontière avec la Somalie. Al-Shabaab avait, voici deux ans, investi cette ville mais en fut chassés par les forces tanzaniennes, au grand mécontentement des résidents musulmans. Ces derniers rendus furieux par la découverte récente des trois cadavres de terroristes d’al-Shabaab, ont décidé de se venger. Trois chrétiens ouvriers du bâtiment, mais ne résidant pas dans cette ville, travaillaient le 22 septembre dernier sur le chantier d’une maison en construction. L’un était sur le toit, les deux autres en train de préparer du mortier. Ils virent arriver un fort parti de musulmans hurlant des slogans en arabe. Aux cris succédèrent des jets de pierres et de briques. Bien que blessés, les trois ouvriers chrétiens tentèrent de trouver refuge dans un hôtel voisin. Les musulmans les y poursuivirent et les achevèrent à coup de pierres. Dans cette région du nord-est de la Tanzanie, plus de 200 chrétiens ont été tués, au cours de ces trois dernières années, par des militants musulmans d’al-Shabaab… »,

– Lapidation prévue dans le code pénal mais jamais appliquée : Mauritanie, Qatar
– Tolérée au niveau régional : Emirats Arabes Unis
– Lapidation extrajudiciaire : Afghanistan, Irak, Mali
– Lapidation aussi bien judiciaire qu’extrajudiciaire : Somalie
– Lapidation légale mais seulement faite extrajudiciairement : Pakistan
