Nos lecteurs ont probablement encore en mémoire ces caméras installées récemment aux carrefours en Chine et permettant quasi instantanément l’identification des passants par la reconnaissance faciale. Or, on voit mal pourquoi ce procédé resterait confiné à la Chine alors que tout l’Occident vit à l’ère de Big Brother.
Dans ce contexte de surveillance globale, le studio de design polonais Noma a conçu un « masque-bijou », appelé « Incognito », destiné à rendre son porteur indétectable aux algorithmes de la reconnaissance faciale.
Associant trois pièces en laiton, et évoquant un visage, cet ornement rend le visage humain méconnaissable par la caméra. La conception de l’objet a nécessité une étude sur la forme, la taille et l’emplacement des trois pièces. La designeuse Ewa Nowak précise avoir eu recours à l’algorithme DeepFace, utilisé par Facebook.
