Alors que les forces françaises étaient engagées dans une sécurisation des portes du massif Tigharghar, un véhicule léger d’une unité de la force Serval a sauté sur un engin explosif, faisant un mort et deux blessés. Le Ministère de la Défense a donné des précisions quant à l’identité du militaire tué et ses états de service.
Le militaire français tué au cours de cette mission, Marcel Kalafut, était un légionnaire, sous-officier du 2ème régiment étranger de parachutistes de Calvi. Légionnaire né en République tchèque, âgé de vingt-six ans et militaire depuis 2007, le sergent Kalafut avait déjà participé à trois engagements extérieurs au Mali, en Afghanistan et en Centrafrique.
Le ministre de la Défense a tenu à présenter ses plus sincères condoléances à sa famille et ses proches. François Hollande, dans un communiqué, a exprimé son plus grand respect pour le sacrifice de ce légionnaire français tout en assurant la famille de la solidarité de la Nation.
