Royaume-Uni – Le 23 juillet, jour de la désignation de Boris Johnson au poste de Premier ministre, le gouvernement britannique a annoncé la nomination d’un expert indépendant en charge de l’élaboration d’une définition officielle de l’islamophobie. Le dit expert gouvernemental n’est autre qu’un imam, Qari Asim, de la mosquée Makkah de Leeds.
Désigné vice-président d’un groupe de travail gouvernemental sur la «haine antimusulmane», Qari Asim «dirigera le processus d’élaboration d’une définition de l’islamophobie».
«Pour faire face à la montée alarmante du sentiment antimusulman, il est impératif de définir l’islamophobie», a déclaré l’imam, qui a réitéré son engagement à collaborer avec « toutes les communautés musulmanes et les parties prenantes concernées pour formuler une définition juridiquement solide, complète et réaliste de l’islamophobie», qui «aura un impact considérable sur la protection des Britanniques musulmans ».
Il est à noter que l’imam Qari Asim est connu pour ses participations à diverses rencontres avec des rabbins.
