Anouar Malek, écrivain algérien, et ancien observateur de la Ligue arabe en Syrie, exilé en France, s’en prend dans l’émission phare d’Al-Jazeera « La direction opposée » aux arabes dont il déplore les comportements violents et l’ignorance : « Les statistiques de la police montrent que la plupart des sites web que visitent les Arabes sont des sites web à caractère pornographique. » Un morceau d’anthologie !
Il a déclaré également : « En toute honnêteté, les Arabes sont tellement arriérés, qu’ils ne sont pas du tout adaptés à la civilisation ! » Lorsque l’animateur de l’émission demande ce qu’un grand pays arabe comme l’Égypte a à offrir, Malek répond : « L’Égypte n’a que des fèves, et je le dis avec toute l’ironie du monde. (…) Elle vit de l’aide américaine. Sans elle, les Égyptiens mourraient de faim. «
L’émission de débat a été diffusée sur la chaîne panarabe Al-Jazeera le 3 mars 2009.
