La Conférence des évêques catholiques de République Dominicaine a dénoncé, dans un communiqué officiel publié le 14 mars 2016, l’activisme politique ouvertement homosexuel de l’ambassadeur américain, James Wally Brewster.
Les évêques ont exigé des autorités de l’île de présenter « une protestation formelle » devant le gouvernement américain. Les prélats ont manifesté « la consternation et la préoccupation de la population concernant les actions de l’ambassadeur des Etats-Unis depuis son arrivée dans le pays ».
« Pendant les dernières années, nous avons vu Monsieur l’ambassadeur dépasser constamment les limites de ses fonctions, démontrant peu de respect envers les usages et coutumes de notre société, violant et la Constitution de la République et la Convention de Vienne sur les Relations Diplomatiques régie par la diplomatie internationale en vigueur et qui fut ratifiée par les Etats-Unis et la République Dominicaine », ont-ils dénoncé.
La Conférence des évêques a déclaré que M. Brewster « s’approche de nos enfants, dans les écoles publiques et privées, dans des tournois sportifs et autres activités pour la jeunesse, en exhibant Monsieur Bob Satawake comme son époux ».
Les prélats ont également ajouté : « ce couple est en train de confondre notre jeunesse et nos enfants en présentant un modèle de famille qui est déformé. En agissant ainsi, ils ridiculisent l’autorité de nos lois ».
Cependant, ces évêques imbibés du relativisme du concile Vatican II, au lieu de rappeler la position de l’Église sur l’homosexualité, n’ont pas pu s’empêcher d’écrire, à la fin du communiqué, qu’ « ils ne protestaient pas contre la personne de l’ambassadeur ni de son compagnon, ni contre leur condition d’homosexuels, mais plutôt contre l’abus de pouvoir dans sa façon d’agir, ce qui est contraire à ses compétences en tant qu’ambassadeur ».
