Parlant des non-musulmans lors d’une réunion du Comité permanent pour la coopération économique et commerciale (COMCEC), Erdogan a déclaré : « Pour être tout à fait clair: ceux qui viennent de l’extérieur (qui ne viennent pas du monde musulman, NDLR) n’aiment que le pétrole, l’or, les diamants, la main-d’oeuvre bon marché et les conflits dans les pays de l’islam. Croyez-moi, ils ne nous aiment pas. Ils veulent notre mort et aiment voir nos enfants mourir. Combien de temps encore allons-nous le tolérer ? »
« Les étrangers prétendent qu’ils sont les amis du monde musulman. Mais reculons d’un pas et regardons la situation d’une perspective plus large. À qui profitent et à qui nuisent ces décès et conflits ? »
Ces propos ont été rapportés par les quotidiens turcs Hürriyet et Zaman.
Erdogan est également réaffirmé que les musulmans ont découvert l’Amérique avant Colomb. « Alors que j’ai simplement avancé un fait scientifique, j’ai été attaqué par les médias occidentaux et les étrangers parmi nous (les Turcs pro occidents) qui souffrent d’un ego surdimensionné« .
