Le Congrès américain est dominé de justesse par les démocrates qui s’opposent à la suppression des subventions à Planned Parenthood. Or il existe une rubrique appelée Title X qui dépend de la Présidence. À ce titre, Trump a fait supprimer toute subvention aux organismes qui pratiquent ou font la promotion de l’avortement.
Bien sûr est visé surtout Planned Parenthood, la plus grande association avorteuse au monde qui perd ainsi 44 millions de dollars par an ; ceci à partir du 1er avril de cette année. Cette somme représente le tiers des aides de l’État à cette agence de mort. Parenthood recevait habituellement environ 1,5 million de patientes par an grâce au Title X.
L’argent sera attribué en partie à Obria. Il s’agit d’un réseau de cliniques pro-vie dont certaines refusent même de prescrire la contraception. «Beaucoup de femmes veulent avoir la possibilité de se rendre dans un établissement de santé complet et professionnel, et non dans une clinique d’avortement, pour répondre à leurs besoins en matière de soins de santé. Cette subvention leur donnera ce choix » a déclaré Kathleen Eaton Bravo, fondatrice et PDG du groupe de soins de santé pro-vie.
Obria gère 21 cliniques de santé et 11 cliniques mobiles dans cinq États et ne pratique ni ne favorise l’avortement. La nouvelle règle intitulée «Protéger la vie» interdit aux entreprises de planification familiale et aux autres entreprises d’avortement de percevoir des subventions à moins qu’elles ne séparent complètement leurs activités d’avortement de leurs services financés par les contribuables.
L’administration Trump a également réduit de 100 millions de dollars la branche internationale de Planned Parenthood en 2017. Une majorité des Américains s’opposent au financement de l’avortement par les contribuables (54% contre 39%).
