C’est le ministre algérien de la justice Tayeb Louh qui a annoncé cette information à la presse ce 27 juin : les trois terroristes « faisaient l’objet d’un mandat d’arrêt international dans le cadre de l’affaire du ressortissant français », et d’ajouter qu’ils ont été abattus « récemment par les forces de l’armée nationale populaire (ANP) dans la wilaya de Médéa », à 80 km au sud-ouest d’Alger.
Il s’agit de Serradj Mohamed, Herdafi Mahieddine et Rabie Ayach. Cette action militaire porte à six le nombre de terroristes impliqués dans l’assassinat du ressortissant français identifiés et abattus à ce jour par l’armée algérienne. « L’enquête est toujours en cours et l’identification des autres membres se poursuit », a ajouté le garde des Sceaux. Hervé Gourdel avait été enlevé et décapité par le groupe armé Jund al-Khilafa composé essentiellement d’algériens.
