Comme beaucoup de médias communautaires juifs, Times of Israël ne tarit pas d’éloges pour le chanteur israélien Amir Haddad qui représente la France au concours eurovision de la chanson :
Les demi-finales ont lieu mardi et mercredi et la finale sera samedi. Le représentant de la France est un chanteur israélien de 31 ans, Amir Haddad, dont le nom de scène est Amir.
Dentiste certifié, Amir a connu ses 15 premières minutes de célébrité en 2006 dans la version israélienne d’« American Idol », intitulée « A star is born ».
Il était toujours soldat de l’armée israélienne à l’époque, et son moment le plus fameux est probablement quand il s’est effondré sur scène pendant un duo.
Et pourtant l’expérience ne l’a pas dissuadé des concours de chants télévisés. En 2014, Amir, qui est né en France et possède la double nationalité franco-israélienne, est apparu dans la version française de « The Voice ». Les quatre juges, dont la star internationale Mika, ont retourné leurs fauteuils vers Amir pendant les auditions à l’aveugle : le signe d’intérêt officiel de l’émission.
Amir a fini troisième et a peu après été sélectionné pour représenter la France à l’Eurovision 2016, avec sa chanson « J’ai cherché », dont les paroles sont en français et en anglais.
La France est l’un des cinq grands pays de l’Eurovision, avec l’Allemagne, l’Italie, l’Espagne et le Royaume-Uni, qui n’ont pas besoin de participer aux concours des demi-finales, qui se déroulent cette année les 10 et 12 mai. Cela signifie qu’Amir sera automatiquement l’un des 10 chanteurs sélectionnés pour la finale.
Israël, au contraire, doit se placer en demi-finale pour gagner sa place dans le spectacle glamour de la finale du 14 mai.
Cette année, Hovi Star représente Israël, avec sa chanson « Made of Stars ». Styliste et coiffeur, il a déclaré avoir été harcelé pendant qu’il faisait la promotion de l’Eurovision en Russie, a priori à cause de son orientation sexuelle et de son apparence.
Sur les 61 années du concours, Israël a gagné trois fois l’Eurovision, la dernière fois en 1998, quand la chanteuse transsexuelle Dana International avait chanté son titre « Diva ».
