Les questions liées à la représentation de la « diversité » à l’écran agitent un peu plus chaque jour le monde occidental. Au risque d’agacer certains artistes… comme Terry Gilliam.
Cet ancien membre des célèbres Monty Pythons a fraîchement réalisé L’Homme qui tua Don Quichotte et est devenu un cinéaste émérite et adulé.
La BBC a annoncé durant le mois de juin qu’elle allait commander un tout nouveau programme comique à l’artiste. Une nouvelle qui réjouira les amateurs de son humour déjanté et gentiment absurde.
Mais Shane Allen, en charge du contrôle des comédies produites par la BBC, a ajouté une précision à Terry Gilliam : « […] Si vous rassemblez une équipe aujourd’hui, ce ne sera pas six types blancs d’Oxford. Ce sera une collection de gens variés qui représentent le monde actuel. »
Terry Gilliam a réagi lors d’une conférence de presse au cours du Festival de Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad) avec l’absurde qui caractérise son humour : « J’en ai pleuré : l’idée que… six hommes blancs d’Oxford ne puissent plus faire un spectacle comique. À présent il nous faut un peu de ceci, un peu de cela, représenter tout le monde… C’est de la connerie. Je ne veux plus être un mâle blanc, je ne veux plus qu’on me reproche tout ce qui ne tourne pas rond dans le monde : maintenant, je dis aux gens que je suis une lesbienne noire. Je m’appelle Loretta (voir vidéo ci-dessous), je suis une LNT, une lesbienne noire en transition. »
Les Monty Pythons avaient prophétiquement prévu en 1979 ce qui agiterait notre époque (les « droits » LGBTQQIP2SAA+, ici le droit des hommes qui se disent femmes à avoir des enfants et à nier la réalité biologique) :
