Au terme de la rencontre trilatérale entre la Russie, l’Iran et la Syrie qui a eu lieu à Moscou, le ministre des Affaires Étrangères russe, Serghei Lavrov, a déclaré :
« L’attaque américaine à la base aérienne syrienne est en train de miner les efforts de paix, les tentatives d’obtenir un changement de régime en Syrie échoueront. » « Cette action agressive, a souligné le chef de la diplomatie russe, a clairement pour but de miner le processus prévu par la résolution du Conseil de Sécurité de l’ONU prise à l’unanimité et qui présuppose que seulement le peuple syrien décidera du futur d’Assad. »
Selon Lavrov le raid des USA vise
« de nouveau à trouver une excuse pour un changement de régime. Ces tentatives échoueront, cela n’arrivera pas. »
En accord avec les homologues syrien et iranien, Walid al-Moallem et Mohammad Javad Zarif, le ministre russe a aussi souligné la ferme position de la Russie sur la Syrie :
« Nous confirmons nos positions et nous sommes unanimes pour dire que cette attaque a été un acte d’agression qui a violé gravement le droit international et la Charte des Nations Unies. » « Les trois pays demandent que les États-Unis et leurs alliés respectent la souveraineté syrienne et ne se lancent pas dans des actions qui pourraient avoir de graves conséquences pour la sécurité, non seulement régionale mais aussi mondiale. »
