Selon les résultats donnés par la Commission électorale de Damas le 17 avril, chacun des 200 candidats de la liste d’Union nationale, formée par le parti du président Assad, le Baas, et d’autres petits groupements alliés, a obtenu un siège au Parlement.
La Chambre des députés rassemblant 250 membres, le président syrien peut donc dès lors s’appuyer sur une majorité incontestable de son parti.
Le taux de participation a approché les 58 %. Seuls les électeurs résidant dans les territoires contrôlés par les forces gouvernementales étaient habilités à voter. C’est la seconde fois depuis le début de la crise déclenchée en Syrie en 2011 qu’un nouveau Parlement est élu.
En juin 2014, se sont déroulées les dernières élections présidentielles. Le Baas avait alors recueilli 88,7 % des voix. Les législatives ont eu lieu le 13 avril dernier.
