Aux États-Unis, le groupe Legatus (Ambassadeurs du Christ dans le marché) a suspendu sa donation annuelle au Vatican qui se monte à 820 000 dollars.
« Face aux récentes révélations et questions, nous retenons opportun de demander des clarifications concernant l’utilisation spécifique de ces fonds » a expliqué Tom Monaghan, le fondateur de Legatus, association composée d’environ 5 000 entrepreneurs et hommes d’affaires catholiques. Pour l’instant les dons sont « déposés en garantie » a signalé Monaghan. Il a précisé, dans une lettre envoyée aux membres, que ces éclaircissements demandés sont reliés aux déclarations de l’ex-nonce Mgr Viganò.
Cette décision semble reflétée la frustration de bons nombres de catholiques des États-Unis, après un été plein de scandales.
