Yann Couderc est un officier français, historien de l’armée de Terre. Saint-cyrien, breveté de l’Ecole de guerre, il a servi sur plusieurs théâtres d’opération. Son intérêt pour l’Asie l’a conduit à entreprendre une étude approfondie de L’Art de la guerre et à développer sa propre réflexion sur la pensée du stratège chinois. Créateur et animateur d’un blog de référence, Sun Tzu France, il est l’auteur de plusieurs publications sur le sujet.
Beaucoup a déjà été écrit sur L’Art de la guerre mais que sait-on vraiment de Sun Tzu, l’auteur de ce traité de stratégie dont la tradition chinoise situe la vie au VIe siècle avant Jésus-Christ ? Très peu de chose en vérité. Mais l’existence de son œuvre est attestée depuis au moins 2.200 ans.
C’est au XVIIIe siècle que le père Amiot, un jésuite missionnaire en Chine, réalisa une première traduction française de ce traité qu’on lui disait être le plus important ouvrage militaire de l’Empire. Mais à l’époque, sa traduction passa totalement inaperçue. Ce n’est qu’au XXe siècle que l’Occident va réellement découvrir l’œuvre de Sun Tzu via une traduction… anglaise rédigée par Samuel Griffith, un général américain à la retraite, et publiée en 1963. La hauteur de vue exceptionnelle de Sun Tzu va rapidement s’imposer chez les militaires puis parmi toutes les personnes intéressées par la stratégie et ses applications.
