La justice soudanaise a finalement décidé de libérer la chrétienne Meriam , âgée de 27 ans, qui avait été condamnée à mort par pendaison le 15 mai dernier, pour avoir épousé un chrétien, en vertu de la loi islamique en vigueur au Soudan qui interdit les conversions au christianisme et les mariages entre musulmans et chrétiens. Elle avait aussi été condamnée à 100 coups de fouet pour adultère. Elle avait accouché à la fin du mois de mai d’une fille en prison. La sentence avait provoqué un tollé international, notamment grâce à la mobilisation des réseaux catholiques. En France, l’association Chrétienté Solidarité avait organisé une manifestation devant l’ambassade du Soudan. Sa libération a été annoncée par son avocat à l’AFP.
