Mogadiscio, la capitale somalienne, a été endeuillée ce week-end par une forte explosion intervenue à l’hôtel Jazeera causant près de six morts.
« Nous avons vu six tués, pour la plupart des gardes de sécurité », a affirmé Mohamed Jama. « Les pertes pourraient être plus élevées, nous sommes en train d’enquêter ».
L’explosion s’est produite dans l’hôtel Jazeera, qui est fréquenté par des membres du gouvernement somalien et des expatriés et abrite plusieurs représentations diplomatiques. Un nuage de fumée noire s’élevait au-dessus du centre-ville.
« Il y a eu une puissante explosion à l’hôtel Jazeera. Il y a des victimes mais nous n’avons pas plus de détails pour l’instant », a affirmé Abdirahman Ahmed, un policier.
La force de l’Union Africaine qui combat les insurgés islamistes shebab dans le pays (Amisom) a confirmé que le bâtiment visé était l’hôtel Jazeera.
L’explosion aurait été causée par « un camion chargé d’explosifs ».
L’attentat n’a pas été revendiqué pour le moment.
Les islamistes shebab avaient déjà ciblé cet hôtel au cours de précédentes attaques.
A la tête d’une insurrection armée depuis 2007, le groupe, affilié à Al-Qaïda, est combattu par le gouvernement somalien, que soutiennent les quelque 22.000 soldats kényans, éthiopiens, burundais, ougandais et djiboutiens de l’Amisom.
