Les « haredim » (juifs ultraorthodoxes) ont souvent témoigné de l’hostilité aux téléphones portables de la dernière génération. Un rabbin a même fait le buzz en 2012 en détruisant un iPhone à coups de hache !
Pourquoi une telle hargne ? Parce que ces téléphones permettent de se connecter à l’internet et aux perversions qui y circulent. Mais la compagnie de téléphonie mobile Rami Levy a trouvé le remède et propose un smartphone 100 % casher ! Les concepteurs prétendent offir « la technologie et l’innovation » sans pour autant « transiger sur les valeurs spirituelles ».
L’appareil est un Nexus 4, version modifiée d’Androïd, le système d’exploitation de Google. Mais ce smartphone casher ne dispose pas de navigateur Internet ni de possibilité de se connecter au réseau local via le Wi-Fi. Et bien sûr il est démuni de toute possibilité de consulter les réseaux sociaux (Facebook, Twitter, etc).
« Nous vendons le téléphone de Google sans Google », a résumé le directeur général de Rami Levy, Shlomi Gulian, au site Internet juif américain The Forward.
Par contre, les « haredim » pourront télécharger sur l’Afik Store, une plate-forme proposant plus de 700 applications validées par un comité de rabbins. Par exemple, l’étude quotidienne d’un texte du Talmud ou des recueils de chants religieux.
Ce marché est à haut potentiel si on considère que les juifs ultraorthodoxes représentent déjà 9 % des 8 millions d’Israéliens. L’opérateur espère en vendre 50 000 unités la première année.
Deux modèles sont proposés, l’un à 1.550 et l’autre à 1.900 shekels (322 et 395 euros). Selon un vendeur d’une boutique de Jaffa Street, la grande artère commerçante de Jérusalem, c’est trop cher ! « Les religieux ne sont pas riches, ils cherchent toujours les appareils les moins chers. »
