Alors que Nicolas Sarkozy est annoncé sur la scène politique pour les jours à venir, l’affaire du financement de sa campagne présidentielle de 2007 revient à la Une de l’actualité. Dans un entretien accordé à l’hebdomadaire l’Express, Ahmed Kadhaf al-Dam, ancien dignitaire du régime Libyen et cousin de Mouammar Kadhafi, affirme que la Libye a bien financé la campagne de Nicolas Sarkozy en 2007.

«Le colonel Kadhafi m’a dit : «Nous devons aider Nicolas Sarkozy à devenir président.Il était prêt à engager tous les moyens pour qu’il soit élu en 2007», affirme-t-il. Cela pour des sommes qu’il évalue en «dizaines de millions d’euros». Il n’apporte aucune preuve de ces allégations, mais elles viennent s’ajouter aux autres nombreux témoignages déjà recueillis.
Ahmed Kadhaf al-Dam a servi ce régime pendant quarante-cinq ans, raconte l’article de l’Express. il aurait assuré le commandement de la garde rapprochée de Kadhafi, avant de devenir son diplomate attitré.

Roland Dumas, ministre des Affaires étrangères de François Mitterrand, confirme son importance : « Chaque fois que je rencontrais Kadhafi, son cousin était là. Il avait en lui une confiance absolue pour toutes les affaires. »
Ahmed Kadhaf al-Dam, aurait rencontré Nicolas Sarkozy à Tripoli en 2005, puis à Paris en 2007. « Il lui reproche d’avoir détruit son pays et ouvert les portes du Sahel au djihadisme. » confie-t-il aux journalistes, ceci alors qu’il avait, selon lui, bénéficié du soutien financier de la Lybie dans son ascension vers l’Elysée.
Les accusations persistantes selon lesquelles il aurait bénéficié d’un financement de Kadhafi sont rejetées par l’ancien président français.
