La biométrie devait devenir un élément essentiel de notre sécurité. Grâce à la reconnaissance de votre empreinte digitale, vous alliez remplacer la clé de votre maison ou de votre voiture. Fini le mot de passe sur votre ordinateur, place à la biométrie. La biométrie allait aussi être la meilleure garantie de sécuriser vos payements en ligne. Grâce à votre empreinte digitale, vous alliez remplacer votre carte de crédit par votre smartphone et la simple pression de votre doigt sur l’écran du téléphone allait valider et sécuriser le payement.
Mais patatras, tout s’effondre…
Chaos Computer Club, un réseau de hackers, a affirmé samedi après-midi avoir reproduit l’empreinte du pouce de la ministre allemande de la Défense Ursula von der Leyen.
Jan Krissler a pris la parole à Hambourg à l’occasion de la 31e réunion annuelle de ce club de pirates informatiques et a montré la fragilité de la biométrie.
Jusqu’à présent, les détracteurs de la biométrie expliquaient qu’il suffit de relever l’empreinte sur un verre, par exemple, pour la reproduire.
Jan Krissler va plus loin et explique que, grâce à des logiciels librement disponibles, tels que VeriFinger, et un cliché du pouce droit du ministre pris lors d’une conférence de presse en octobre ainsi que d’autres photos, prises sous d’autres angles, pour compléter l’image de l’empreinte, il était en mesure de reproduire l’exacte empreinte du ministre et de tromper le système de sécurité biométrique. Pour prouver ses affirmations, Jan Krissler a exhibé samedi l’empreinte du ministre allemand.
