Continent le plus pauvre dans les faits, l’Afrique est néanmoins richissime, notamment par un sous-sol contenant nombre de matières premières rares et un sol permettant la culture de produits agricoles clés, même si, pour leur plus grand malheur, certains pays n’ont pas grand-chose d’intéressant à proposer. Peut-être même d’ailleurs pour leur plus grand bonheur, tant l’absence de richesses peut éloigner les rapaces…

Répartissons les pays africains par leur principale richesse, en indiquant si possible le rang et le pourcentage mondial (les données sont de 2015 ou 2016). La richesse principale d’un pays n’est pas forcément celle où il a le meilleur rang mondial :

– Richesses en hydrocarbures

• Pétrole : Nigeria (13^e avec 2,48 %), Algérie (18^e avec 1,67 %), Libye (29^e avec 0,48 %), Congo (30^e avec 0,38 %), Soudan du Sud (34^e avec 0,32 %), Guinée Equatoriale (36^e avec 0,28 %), Gabon (37^e avec 0,26 %), Tchad (39^e avec 0,14 %), Ghana (41^e avec 0,12 %), Cameroun (42^e avec 0,11 %) et Tunisie (54^e avec 0,06 %).
• Gaz Naturel : Egypte (16^e avec 1,4 %).

– Richesses en métaux précieux :

• Or : Afrique du Sud (6^e avec 4,65 %), Soudan (11^e avec 2,65 %), Mali (17^e avec 1,5 %), Tanzanie (19^e avec 1,47 %), Burkina Faso (22^e avec 1,17 %), Ethiopie (36^e avec 0,3 %), Erythrée (72^e avec 0,02 %) et Djibouti.
• Platine : Zimbabwe (3^e avec 5,66 %).
• Diamants : Botswana (2^e avec 16,45 %), Angola (5^e avec 7,12 %), Namibie (9^e avec 1,57 %), Sierra Leone (10^e avec 0,39 %), Centrafrique (12^e avec 0,29 %).

– Métaux :

• Phosphates : Maroc (3^e avec 9,29 %), Sahara Occidental (12^e avec 0,75 %), Togo (17^e avec 0,43 %).
• Fer : Mauritanie (17^e avec 0,34 %).
• Aluminium/Bauxite : Guinée (Bauxite, 6^e avec 6,16 %), Mozambique (Aluminium, 14^e avec 0,97 %).
• Uranium : Niger (4^e avec 6,8 %).
• Cuivre : Zambie (7^e avec 3,75 %)
• Cobalt : République Démocratique du Congo (1^er avec 56,43 %), Ouganda (15^e avec 0,51 %).
• Graphite : Madagascar (12^e avec 0,36 %).
• Houille : Swaziland (53^e avec 0,01 %).
• Pouzzolane : Cap-Vert (11^e avec 0,02 %).

– Produits agricoles :

• Cacao : Côte d’Ivoire (1^er avec 43 %)
• Bois: Libéria,
• Poissons : Sénégal, Seychelles, Ile Maurice, Comores, Guinée Bissau.
• Café : Rwanda, Burundi
• Thé : Kenya (3^e avec 8,1 %)
• Tabac : Malawi (7^e avec 1,8 %)

Il est intéressant d’avoir cet aide-mémoire sous les yeux à chaque événement important se passant en Afrique pour savoir la raison réelle des événements dans tel ou tel pays. Notons qu’il ne s’agit là que des matières premières, car certains pays sont en fait exportateurs principalement de produits finis :
