Le « Oui » à l’indépendance de la Catalogne est sorti vainqueur des urnes dimanche 1er octobre 2017 lors d’un référendum interdit : 90,09 % de oui mais sur une influence aux urnes de seulement 42,3 % d’électeurs ! 7,87 de ces votants ont dit « non » à l’indépendance. Ce résultat démontre que uniquement les indépendantistes catalans se sont vraiment déplacés dans des salles de votes interdites et sous haute surveillance. Seul un peu plus de deux millions de personnes a exprimé ses préférences sur les 5,34 millions d’électeurs. La victoire pour l’auto-détermination de la Catalogne n’en est donc pas une !
Le premier ministre espagnol Mariano Rajoy a défini ce vote « une mise en scène » de la démocratie en soulignant son caractère illégal : « Il n’y a pas eu de référendum pour l’auto-détermination de la Catalogne ».
De son côté, le chef de la Catalogne, Carles Puigdemont, lors d’une intervention télévisée, veut croire à la victoire :
« En cette journée d’espérance et de souffrances les citoyens de la Catalogne ont gagné leur droit à un État indépendant en forme de République ».
« Dans les prochains jours, mon gouvernement enverra les résultats du vote au parlement catalan, où réside la souveraineté des Catalans, de manière à ce qu’il puisse agir selon les dispositions prévues par la loi sur le référendum. L’Union européenne ne peut pas continuer à regarder de l’autre côté ».
