Robert Brasillach laisse une œuvre littéraire immense. Romans, poésie, théâtre, essais, reportages, il a touché aux différents exercices de style avec un même succès. Son Anthologie de la poésie grecque fait toujours référence. Son récit de l’épopée des Cadets de l’Alcazar se lit comme un reportage haletant. Ses Poèmes de Fresnes parviennent encore à émouvoir.
La police de la pensée ne retiendra que son engagement politique. Son rôle de rédacteur en chef du journal Je suis partout lui vaudra un peloton d’exécution à l’âge de trente-cinq ans.
Durant les quelques mois de captivité qui ont précédé son exécution, Robert Brasillach rédigea secrètement ces Poèmes de Fresnes dont la publication posthume se fera pour la première fois en 1945 aux éditions Minuit et demi.
Chacun de ces poèmes est une petite merveille. Mon pays me fait mal, Noël en taule, Le testament d’un condamné,… Et ces sept psaumes si touchants.
Cette réédition soignée en format de poche est une amorce idéale pour faire apprécier la poésie aux plus hermétiques des lecteurs.
