A l’occasion du 250e anniversaire de la naissance de Napoléon, les éditions Perrin ont réédité les deux volumes monumentaux d’André Castelot consacrés à la vie de l’Empereur.
André Castelot (1911-2004), historien et journaliste d’origine belge (son vrai nom est André Storms), est l’auteur de plus de 65 biographies à succès de grands personnages de l’Histoire de France. Secrétaire d’Alphonse de Châteaubriant de 1933 à 1937, André Castelot fut en 1947 le fondateur et le directeur de la collection « Présence de l’Histoire » à la Librairie Académique Perrin.
En 1967, il publia cette impressionnante biographie en deux tomes de l’Empereur Napoléon régulièrement réimprimée. Si les livres sur Napoléon abondent, le succès jamais démenti de ces deux ouvrages d’André Castelot est sans conteste lié à son talent de conteur et à ses qualités littéraires. Loin de l’austérité de certains ouvrages historiques, ces deux livres peuvent rivaliser avec les sagas romanesques malgré l’authenticité du récit.
