Jordan Cantwell, « pasteure » et lesbienne notoire, a été élue le 13 août 2015 modératrice de l’Eglise Unie du Canada, plus importante faction protestante du pays.
Ce courant calviniste s’est depuis longtemps lié au lobby LGBT.
Auparavant, en 2012, c’est Gary Paterson, pasteur ouvertement homosexuel, que les délégués rassemblés à Ottawa avaient désigné comme « modérateur ».
La « pasteure » Jordan Cantwell est « mariée » à une diacre exerçant au sein de l’Eglise Unie de Saskatoon. Les deux femmes ont élevé une fille.
Jordan Cantwell est née en 1967 à New York, d’une mère méthodiste et d’un père catholique romain. Elle a d’abord fréquenté l’Eglise anglicane, avant de découvrir l’Eglise Unie à la fin des années 1980.
Il est important de noter qu’elle est aussi, à l’échelon canadien, vice-présidente pour l’initiative de dialogue entre l’Eglise Unie et l’Eglise catholique romaine !
L’Eglise unie du Canada (United Church of Canada, en anglais) est née de la fusion, en 1925, de 70% de l’Eglise presbytérienne du pays, de l’Eglise méthodiste, du Conseil général des Eglises de l’Union et de l’Union congrégationnelle du Canada.
