Ce mardi 5 août à Thonon-les-Bains, un peu avant 8 heures, l’église Saint-Hippolyte et la basilique Saint-François-de-Sales contiguë ont été la cible d’un profanateur qui a renversé et abîmé deux autels, des candélabres, des lutrins, des vitraux, brisé des statues, arraché un tabernacle, vandalisé une croix et défoncé une porte de sacristie.

Selon le curé, « il y a eu profanation mais aussi sacrilège, les saintes espèces (hosties) ayant été piétinées ».

Appelée par un bénévole présent dans la basilique, la police a pu procéder à l’arrestation du forcené.
