Dimanche 22 juin était le jour de la Fête Dieu, qui célèbre la présence réelle de Jésus-Christ dans l’Eucharistie. C’est l’occasion d’une procession.
L’église St Nicolas du Chardonnet a perpétué la tradition de la procession dans les rues de Paris. Le parcours empruntait le Boulevard St Germain, passait par les quais devant la cathédrale Notre-Dame, puis s’est arrêté devant la fontaine St Michel où l’Archange a pu entendre les prières des fidèles agenouillés devant un autel dressé à cette occasion sur lequel a été posé l’ostensoir.
Le Saint Sacrement était élevé par un prêtre protégé par un dais, lui-même porté par quatre hommes.
Les enfants qui avaient fait leur première communion le matin même ont été sollicités afin de lancer des pétales de roses sur le chemin de la procession tel que la tradition le requiert.
