Un transgenre est devenu lundi maire de la ville de Raigarh.
Madhu Bai Kinnar a remporté la victoire aux élections locales qui se sont tenues dimanche, en battant le candidat du Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), formation du Premier ministre, Narendra Modi.
Le transgenre Kinnar, 35 ans, membre des dalits, caste connue comme «intouchable», a remercié pour la confiance témoignée par les électeurs et a promis de tout faire pour « réaliser leurs rêves. »
La victoire de Kinnar intervient juste neuf mois après que la Cour suprême de l’Inde ait reconnu les transsexuels comme un troisième genre.
