Le rabbin Eliezer Berland, recherché par la justice israélienne pour crimes sexuels, a été arrêté jeudi en Afrique du Sud, quatre ans après avoir fui Israël.
Le rabbin Eliezer Berland, 80 ans, devrait être extradé vers Israël, dans le cadre d’un accord d’extradition entre les deux pays.
Eliezer Berland, de la dynastie hassidique Breslov, fondateur du séminaire religieux Shuvu Bonim, s’était d’abord réfugié au Maroc en 2012, après avoir été accusé d’agression sexuelle sur deux femmes, dont l’une était mineure.
Ensuite, il a été signalé au Zimbabwe, en Suisse, aux Pays-Bas, et en Afrique du Sud, toujours accompagné d’un groupe d’inconditionnels.
C’est la troisième fois que la police sud-africaine, agissant sur demande d’Interpol, tentait d’arrêter le rabbin Berland. Précédemment, il avait réussi à s’échapper après une course poursuite à grande vitesse.
