Lundi, la police israélienne a arrêté 22 juifs orthodoxes, âgés de 20 à 60 ans, soupçonnés d’abus sexuels sur des enfants et des femmes de leur communauté.
Ces arrestations font suite à une opération d’infiltration de la police dans la communauté juive orthodoxe à Jérusalem, à Bnei Brak, à Bet Shemesh et dans la colonie de Beitar Illit en Cisjordanie, territoire palestinien occupé.
Les policiers ont recueilli des informations sur des faits de pédophilie et des abus sexuels commis sur des femmes sur une période de deux ans. D’autres membres de la communauté avaient connaissance des faits mais ont tenté de dissimuler ces crimes sexuels à la justice.
La police parle de « dizaines de victimes » qui « n’ont pas reçu les soins nécessaires ».
A Jérusalem, des membres de la communauté ont tenté de s’interposer et d’empêcher les arrestations, n’hésitant pas à lancer des projectiles sur les véhicules de police.
