Etats-Unis – La sénatrice démocrate de l’Etat de New York Kirsten Gillibrand, née Kisten Elizabeth Rutnik, a interpellé le ministère américain de l’Agriculture, regrettant le manque de nourriture halal et casher dans les banques alimentaires.
Dans une lettre adressée au secrétaire à l’Agriculture Tom Vilsack, la sénatrice déclare :
« Je suis extrêmement préoccupée par les rapports sur la pénurie d’aliments casher et halal pour les nombreuses personnes et familles observantes confrontées à la faim et à l’insécurité alimentaire à New York et dans tout notre pays. »
« Comme beaucoup de New Yorkais, quelques familles juives orthodoxes luttent pour nourrir leurs enfants et doivent compter sur les banques alimentaires locales et les organismes communautaires pour leur fournir des aliments nutritifs. »
« Pour les nombreuses personnes dans tout le pays qui ne peuvent se permettre de manger des aliments casher ou halal dans le respect de leurs croyances religieuses et qui comptent sur des programmes alimentaires fédéraux, toute pénurie de produits de base signifie que leurs familles font face à un risque supplémentaire de malnutrition et de faim. »
Le site communautaire juif Vos Iz Neias a cité l’organisateur d’une soupe populaire casher de New-York déplorant que le gouvernement fédéral n’ait pas fourni de poulets casher depuis 20 semaines.
