Le mouvement islamiste Al-Mourabitoune, faction djihadiste salafiste sahélienne dirigée par Mokhtar Belmokhtar et active au Mali et au nord du Niger, a annoncé qu’il devenait al-Qaïda en Afrique de l’Ouest (AQAO) et se transformait en branche régionale d’Al-Qaïda.

En vérité, le mouvement Al-Mourabitoune a éclaté et une partie des hommes ont depuis mai fait allégeance à l’Etat Islamique.

Dans un message audio diffusé ensuite par le nouvel AQAO, ces islamistes présentent les attentats de Bamako et d’Ansongo au Mali comme des exemples à suivre et appellent  à perpétrer des attentats contre les Européens.
