BNP Paribas a été condamnée par la justice fédérale américaine à payer 80 millions de dollars (près de 60 millions d’euros) pour utilisation frauduleuse d’un programme du département de l’Agriculture visant à encourager les exportations américaines, a annoncé jeudi le département américain de la Justice (DoJ).
Le programme fournissait des garanties de paiement aux exportateurs américains de matières premières agricoles en cas de non paiement de la marchandise vendue par les importateurs.
La fraude reprochée à la banque française a eu lieu entre 1998 et 2005, indique le département de la Justice. Par exemple à partir de 2005, BNP Paribas a présenté des demandes au département de l’Agriculture pour les pertes d’un importateur mexicain qui faisait partie du même groupe que la société exportatrice américaine qui lui vendrait la marchandise.
Un haut dirigeant de BNP Paribas, Jerry Cruz, a reconnu en 2012 avoir reçu des pots-de-vin des exportateurs, indique le DoJ.
