C’est Muhammad Namadi Musa, directeur général du Bureau interconfessionnel de l’Etat de Kaduna qui a livré cette information à la presse et ces 350 corps ont été découverts dans une fosse commune dans le nord du Nigeria.
Selon les informations ces corps proviendraient des affrontements qui s’étaient produits à Zaria, fief du mouvement islamique du Nigeria (MIN), avec un convoi de l’armée conduit par le général Tukur Yusuf Buratai. « La plupart des corps étaient recouverts de noir et on y a trouvé des femmes et des enfants », a précisé Muhammad Namadi Musa aux enquêteurs, ajoutant que les cadavres avaient été transportés à bord d’un convoi de camions escorté par l’armée.
L’armée nigériane s’est défendue en assurant que les soldats avaient respecté les règles d’engagement à Zaria. Les militaires ont accusé des partisans du chef du MIN, Ibrahim Zakzaky, d’avoir tenté d’assassiner le général, une accusation démentie par le groupe islamique chiite, qui dénonce des exactions. Quant à l’armée ces chiffres sont « sans fondement ».
Notons que les chiites du Nigeria sont souvent accusés de violation des lois du pays comme l’atteste le ministère public qui avait déclaré en février que 191 fidèles chiites avaient été inculpés pour violation de la législation sur les armes à feu et l’ordre public.
