Nike a fait savoir que ses voiles islamiques seront disponibles dans des couleurs sombres et neutres, et dans deux tailles différentes (XS/S et M/L).
« Nike Pro Hijab est le résultat direct des besoins exprimés par nos athlètes, disant qu’elles ont besoin de produits pour être plus performantes, et nous espérons qu’il aidera des athlètes dans le monde entier à en faire autant« , a déclaré Megan Saalfeld, porte-parole de Nike, à Al Arabiya English.
La campagne de communication à destination des musulmans a déjà commencé avec la publication d’une vidéo publicitaire officiellement destinée aux athlètes du Moyen-Orient et intitulée « Que vont-ils dire de toi? ».
La décision de lancer la collection Nike Pro Hijab remonterait aux Jeux Olympiques de Londres en 2012, en découvrant l’athlète saoudienne Sarah Attar participant voilée au 800 mètres. En 2016, aux JO de Rio, le phénomène s’accentuait. Quatre athlètes saoudiennes portaient le hijab durant les compétitions. Mais aussi une sportive représentant les Etats-Unis, l’escrimeuse Ibtihaj Muhammad…
