Une initiative a été lancée sur internet pour organiser une neuvaine de prières pour Vincent Lambert. Les auteurs de cette initiative expliquent leurs raisons:
« Le conseil d’Etat vient de décider la mise à mort, par privation de nourriture et de boisson, de Vincent Lambert. Ce dernier n’est pas un malade pour lequel les parents demanderaient un « acharnement thérapeutique » déraisonnable. Nous ne pouvons pas abandonner ce malheureux à une « justice » indigne, qui confond nourriture et soins médicaux et refus de l’acharnement thérapeutique avec assassinat. Nous commençons donc une neuvaine de prières (reconductible jusqu’à ce que justice soit rendue à Vincent Lambert et à ses parents) pour le sauver d’une mort atroce. Cette neuvaine, c’est tout naturellement que la faisons par l’intercession de saint Maximilien Kolbe, ce prêtre polonais qui fut condamné par les nazis à mourir de faim et de soif dans les camps de la mort. »
