Raymond Muelle est mort ce 10 novembre dans une indifférence totale. Chef de bataillon, il est commandeur de la Légion d’Honneur, médaillé militaire et titulaire de 13 citations et 3 blessures. En novembre 40, il s’était engagé dans l’armée d’Afrique. Il sautera dans le Sud-Vercors à la tête d’une section en juillet 44. Il participera à la Libération de la France et terminera la campagne en mai 1945, en Autriche. En 1948, lieutenant volontaire pour la Légion Etrangère parachutiste, il sera affecté après Sibi-bel-Abbès, au 2ème BEP en formation. Il fera deux séjours en Indochine. Il sera le premier à porter le béret vert des légionnaires parachutistes, à Sétif, dès janvier 1949. Ensuite il servira au 11ème choc et au service action (SDECE) en tant que capitaine, puis chef de bataillon. Il participera aux opérations en Algérie où il est grièvement blessé. Il quittera l’armée en novembre 1962. Par la suite, il écrira de nombreux livres sur l’armée : Seconde Guerre Mondiale, Indochine et Algérie. Sa biographie sur le lieutenant-colonel Jeanpierre est remarquable.
Sur un site, il raconte sa vie de « choc » pendant la Seconde Guerre Mondiale.
Ses obsèques se sont déroulées en l’église Saint Louis des Invalides le 15 novembre. Il y avait du monde dont cinq grands anciens : messieurs Glavany, Moreau, Guichard, Toussait et Cortes… ainsi que des personnalités: les colonels Tachon et Daumas, mesdames Valérie Andrée (médecin militaire, pilote d’hélico en Indochine et pilote de chasse), Geneviève de Gallard (infirmière à Dien Bien Phu)… L’Homélie a été dite par le Gouverneur des Invalides, le général cinq étoiles Kuche.
