Chaque année, la Fondation Genesis décerne un prix assorti d’un million de dollars dans lr cadre d’un partenariat avec le cabinet du Premier ministre israélien et l’Agence juive pour Israël. L’objectif du Prix Genesis est d’inspirer l’unité dans la communauté juive mondiale.
Benjamin Netanyahu allait plus loin encore en déclarant que ce prix souligne « le rôle du peuple juif dans le progrès de l’humanité, renforce la fierté de la jeunesse juive dans le monde entier, l’aide à développer son identité juive« .
L’acteur Michael Douglas avait été le lauréat du prix Genesis 2015, pour son engagement pour les valeurs juives et le peuple juif. Il avait promis d’utiliser le million de dollars qui accompagnait le prix pour des financements du Jewish Funders Network.
La Fondation Genesis, en présence de Michael Douglas, vient d’annoncer qu’elle consacrerait 3,3 millions de dollars au financement d’un programme destiné aux familles « mixtes ».
« En tant que personne qui n’a pas toujours été accueillie dans la communauté juive parce que ma mère n’était pas juive, je veux être certain que tous ceux qui ont le désir de se connecter à la culture juive et à l’héritage juif auront cette opportunité », a déclaré Michael Douglas.
Parmi les programmes qui ont reçu des financements, on retrouve Honeymoon Israël, un programme qui propose des voyages financés en Israël pour les couples dont au moins l’un des partenaires est juif; Jewish ArtEck, un camp d’été à Berlin ouvert aux juifs de familles mixtes ; JCC Manhattan, qui mettra en place un programme pour intégrer les couples mixtes et leurs familles dans la vie et la communauté juive via des groupes d’apprentissage menés par des tuteurs.
Au total, ce sont 28 projets répartis dans sept pays (les Etats-Unis, Israël, l’Allemagne, la Russie, l’Ukraine, la Pologne et la Chine) qui seront sponsorisés.
