L’Asie, riche en matières premières, exporte logiquement en priorité vers les Etats-Unis et la Chine. Le Céleste Empire est le principal client de la plupart des états pétroliers du Golfe Persique : Arabie Saoudite, Yémen, Oman, Iran, Irak… Le Kazakhstan riche en métaux, le Turkménistan riche en gaz, la Malaisie et les Philippines de plus en plus prospères en métaux et en agriculture… Et bien entendu, les pays ayant jadis été ses vassaux, tels les deux Corées, Taïwan, Hong-Kong et le Myanmar.
Hong-Kong, qui bien que rattaché à la Chine depuis 1999 est toujours compté à part sur le plan économique, est le premier client de Singapour et de Macao.
Les Etats-Unis sont bien évidemment les premiers clients du Japon, de la Chine, mais aussi de sa voisine et rivale l’Inde. L’Indonésie, le Pakistan, la Thaïlande, le Vietnam, le Bangladesh, le Cambodge, le Sri Lanka, le Timor oriental, Israël et la Jordanie privilégient les exportations vers les Etats-Unis.
Le Japon, même si son poids industriel et par là ses besoins en pétrole ont décliné, est le premier client de plusieurs nations pétrolière : le Qatar, les Emirats Arabes Unis et Brunei. La Corée du Sud, puissance industrielle émergente, est la première cliente du Koweït.
Plusieurs nations asiatiques ont pour premier client leur voisin, soit dans un rapport de vassalité, tel le Népal et le Bhoutan dont le premier client est l’Inde, la Palestine vis-à-vis d’Israël ou le Bahreïn vis-à-vis de l’Arabie Saoudite qui est aussi la première cliente du Liban ; soit dans un rapport d’échange traditionnel, l’Afghanistan vendant prioritairement au Pakistan, la Géorgie à l’Azerbaïdjan, l’Azerbaïdjan à l’Iran.
La Turquie est la première cliente d’un pays turcophone d’Asie centrale, le Tadjikistan. Liens historiques obligent, la Turquie exporte le plus en Allemagne. Quelques autres pays d’Europe tirent leur épingle du jeu, à savoir la Suisse, premier client de l’Ouzbékistan et du Kirghizstan, et les Pays-Bas, premiers clients de la Russie. Russie qui elle-même est la première destination des exportations de l’Arménie.
Pour conclure, la Thaïlande est la première cliente des Maldives et du Laos. L’Egypte est celle de la Syrie.
