Maryam Tariq Ramadan est la fille de Tariq Ramadan et l’arrière-petite-fille d’Hassan el-Banna, fondateur des Frères Musulmans.
Maryam Tariq Ramadan a fait des études universitaires à Londres où elle a obtenu une maîtrise en… Gender Studies, ces fameuses études de genre.
Maryam Ramadan vit aujourd’hui à New York où elle travaille pour le Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). Elle y est notamment en charge de la partie « événements » et assiste, au nom de cet organisme, à certaines réunions au siège de l’ONU.
Dans un article qu’elle signe sur le site internet de l’antenne new-yorkaise du Council on American-Islamic Relations au retour d’une telle réunion à l’ONU consacrée notamment aux questions de genre, elle écrit : « Je ne pense pas qu’il y ait un besoin de plaider pour un changement de «rôles de genre». » Le « je ne pense pas » traduit une pensée relativiste et libérale, qui laisse la porte ouverte à un changement d »avis.
Aux Etats-Unis, Maryam Tariq Ramadan plaide pour que l’islam participe au dévelopement du féminisme. Elle parle notamment de « féminisme islamique ». Le 27 mars 2013, Maryam Tariq Ramadan donnait une conférence à l’Université de New York sur le thème « Pourquoi tous les musulmans devraient être féministes ». Cette conférence était notamment recommandée par The Young Feminists and Allies (YFA) dont l’objectif est de soutenir les jeunes femmes, les hommes et les personnes « au genre non conforme » (appellation cosmétique pour les transsexuels ou transgenres) qui se reconnaissent dans « l’activisme féministe ».
Tout ceci est à mettre en relation avec les déclarations très relativistes et libérales de Tariq Ramadan à propos de la théorie du genre. Voilà qui explique sans doute également que l’Union des Organisations Islamiques de France (UOIF), réputée proche des Frères Musulmans, se soit montrée opposée aux Journées de Retrait des Ecoles (JRE) initiées par Farida Belghoul.
