Le collège-lycée musulman Ibn Khaldoun a ouvert ses portes en 2009 dans le quartier nord de Marseille, à quelques mètres d’un collège catholique et d’une école élémentaire publique. Cette année, il a inauguré sa classe de seconde. Cet établissement scolaire privé aimerait passer sous contrat avec l’Etat l’année prochaine.
Selon Mohsen Ngazou, directeur de l’établissement scolaire, ce projet est entièrement financé par les fidèles de la mosquée voisine. « Le montant total du projet d’établissement, gros œuvre et équipement compris, s’élève à 2,39 millions d’euros ! », avance-t-il, précisant que depuis 2003, entre 450 000 et 500 000 € d’aménagement ont été dépensés pour la mosquée et le collège-lycée.
C’est en 1994 qu’un terrain de 2.300 m² avait été acheté dans le but d’y établir sur un tiers du terrain une mosquée et des espaces associatifs, et sur deux-tiers l’établissement scolaire. L’ambition à terme est d’y accueillir 400 élèves. Durant l’année scolaire 2012-2013, 115 élèves y étaient inscrits (60 % de filles, 40 % de garçons).
Son directeur, Mohsen Ngazou, est un ancien vice-président de l’Union des Organisations Islamiques de France (UOIF), considérée comme proche de l’idéologie des Frères Musulmans. C’est l’UOIF qui organise depuis 1988 le « Congrès du Bourget », Rencontre annuelle des musulmans de France (RAMF), plus grand rassemblement musulman en France avec une participation parfois supérieure à cent mille personnes.
