Marseille – Alors qu’il était pressenti pour être candidat du PS ou d’EELV et qu’il était également sollicité par le MoDem, Pape Diouf sera finalement tête de liste d’un « collectif citoyen » appelé « Le Sursaut ».

Cette liste présentera des candidats issus de « la société civile » mais aussi des élus des Verts (dont Sébastien Barles, l’initiateur de ce projet politique) et du MoDem.

Le parti socialiste espérait pourtant trouver en Pape Diouf un soutien pour la candidature de Patrick Mennucci. François Hollande – qui avait décoré Pape Diouf de l’insigne de chevalier de la Légion d’honneur –avait même reçu Pape Diouf à l’Elysée ce 2 février afin de le « raisonner ». Mais rien n’y a fait.

Pape Diouf, franco-sénégalais né au Tchad, fut d’abord journaliste sportif pour le journal communiste La Marseillaise puis pour L’hebdo et Sport, avant de devenir l’agent sportif de différents joueurs de foot (dont Samir Nasri). Mais c’est en tant que président de l’OM, de 2005 à juin 2009, que Pape Diouf a développé sa notoriété dans la cité phocéenne. Depuis, il s’est associé à Jean-Pierre Foucaut dans l’European Communication School et dans l’Institut Européen de Journalisme.

La candidature de Pape Diouf a immédiatement été saluée par le Conseil représentatif des associations noires de France (CRAN) à travers un communiqué de Louis-Georges Tin, militant homosexuel d’origine martiniquaise et président du très communautariste CRAN.
